Dance Community Guidelines

Our etiquette guidelines help create a safe, respectful, and joyful environment where everyone can express themselves through movement.

Our Community Values

At xusopoin Dance Fitness, we believe that dance is for everyone. Our community is built on values of inclusivity, respect, self-expression, and joy. These guidelines help us maintain a space where all participants feel welcome, safe, and free to explore movement in their own way.

Dance Etiquette Guidelines

Arrive On Time

Please arrive 10-15 minutes before class to settle in and prepare. This allows time for check-in, changing if needed, and centering yourself before we begin. Late arrivals can disrupt the flow of the class and your own experience.

Silence Electronic Devices

Please silence your phone and other electronic devices during class. If you need to take an emergency call, kindly step outside the studio space. This helps maintain the immersive atmosphere of our dance practice.

Appropriate Attire

Wear comfortable clothes that allow free movement. Avoid excessive jewelry or accessories that might get caught during movement. Most classes are done barefoot or in dance socks, but check specific class requirements.

Personal Hygiene

Please maintain good personal hygiene out of respect for yourself and others. Avoid wearing strong perfumes or scents as some participants may have sensitivities or allergies.

Respectful Communication

Practice respectful communication with instructors and fellow dancers. Ask questions when needed, but be mindful of timing. Save longer discussions for after class or schedule time with the instructor.

Respect Personal Space

Be aware of your surroundings and the space needed by others. When the studio is full, adjust your movement to accommodate everyone. Ask before making physical contact with others.

Honor Your Body

Listen to your body and take breaks when needed. Modify movements to suit your abilities and energy level. Hydrate well before, during, and after class. Inform the instructor of any injuries or health concerns.

Maintain a Positive Attitude

Approach each class with an open mind and positive attitude. Dance is a journey of growth—celebrate your progress and that of others. Avoid negative self-talk or comparisons.

Photography & Recording

Please refrain from taking photos or videos during class without prior permission from the instructor and all participants. We occasionally document classes and events for promotional purposes, but always with advance notice.

Partner Dance Etiquette

For classes and events that involve partner work, these additional guidelines help create respectful and enjoyable interactions:

  • Consent is essential. Always ask before initiating physical contact, and respect if someone declines to dance or requests to modify a movement.
  • Maintain appropriate contact. Be mindful of where and how you place your hands and maintain appropriate physical boundaries.
  • Dance with everyone. In structured partner rotations, dance with everyone regardless of perceived skill level, age, or other factors. Everyone has something to teach and learn.
  • Communicate clearly. If something feels uncomfortable, communicate respectfully. Similarly, be receptive to feedback from your partners.
  • Thank your partner. Acknowledge your partner with a thank you at the end of each dance, regardless of how the dance felt for you.

Community Expectations

Zero Tolerance Policy

xusopoin Dance Fitness has a zero tolerance policy for harassment, discrimination, or inappropriate behavior of any kind. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Unwelcome physical contact or advances
  • Discriminatory comments or jokes
  • Intimidating or threatening behavior
  • Disruptive conduct that interferes with others' experience

If you experience or witness behavior that violates these guidelines, please speak with an instructor or staff member immediately. All reports will be taken seriously and addressed promptly.

For Beginners

Everyone starts somewhere! Don't be afraid to try new movements or ask questions. Focus on your own journey rather than comparing yourself to others. Celebrate small victories and be patient with yourself as you learn.

For Experienced Dancers

Welcome newcomers and help foster a supportive environment. Remember that everyone has a unique movement journey. Be open to learning from others regardless of their experience level, and share your knowledge when appropriate.

Our Commitment to You

We are committed to creating a dance space where everyone feels welcome, respected, and empowered to express themselves authentically. These guidelines help us maintain that environment, but we're always open to feedback and suggestions for improvement.
